Netezza Architecture and Basic SQL

Tuesday, July 11, 2017 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM EST

This two-hour session on Netezza is dedicated to explaining the Netezza terminology and the system architecture.  Students will leave this webinar with a strong understanding of the Netezza Architecture, fundamental options for CREATING Tables and how Netezza processes joins and other queries.

Students will learn about the Host, Snipper Processing Unit (SPUs) and the FPGA card.  Students will also understand how Netezza stores and processes data using the Distribution Key.  Students will also understand how Netezza performance tunes using the FPGA card and Zone Maps.  Students will also understand how to create tables in Netezza and how the data will layout among the SPUs.  Students will also understand the Rowid, CreateXid and DeleteXid as well as how Netezza processes joins.

Netezza SQL and Advanced SQL

Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00 EST

This three-hour session on Netezza SQL will give students the opportunity to see some of the advanced SQL techniques used by Netezza.  Students will learn:

  • Aggregation – Aggregates, WHERE clause, HAVING clause, Group by Grouping Sets, Group by Rollup and Group by Cube.
  • Date Functions – Date and Time keywords, Formatting dates, ADD_MONTHS command, EXTRACT command, DATE_PART, DATE_TRUNC, MONTHS_BETWEEN.
  • OLAP Functions – CSUM, MSUM, MAVG, Partitioning, RANK, PERCENT_RANK, FIRST_VALUE, LAST_VALUE, LEAD and LAG.
  • Temporary Tables – Derived tables, Temporary tables and External tables.
  • Netezza Joins – Inner, Outer and how joins work inside the Netezza engine.

Teradata Basics

This two-hour session is designed to educate the student on the fundamental Teradata terms, the Teradata Architecture, creating tables using a Primary Index, creating partitioned tables and columnar tables.  Students will understand how Teradata parallel processes data and how the data is distributed among the Teradata AMPs.  The concept of Space will also be covered in detail.
